When Jaystar first met Kestrelwing, she wanted to befriend him. He was loyal, strong, determined and though he struggled with combat was an excellent hunter. She could tell he was disappointed with his short comings and wanted to help him. He wanted to gain his respect, prove herself worthy. He was at that time, her only peer. She longed for friendship, but ended up with a rivalry. At first it was a bitter one. He resented her for not being clan born, which hurt and caused her to feel lonely even though she was surrounded by cats. But she persisted. Eventually she noticed he began to open up and the rivalry became more of a friendly game than passive aggressive action. As warriors they trusted each other and enjoyed the company. He liked to hear her stories, she enjoyed his plans and analysis.
When they found each other again, he had grown into a more mature cat. Though still highly analytical and wary of others he was less quick to pick petty fights. He was less argumentative. He seemed to be skeptical of their plan to rebuild the clan, but trusted her judgement and supported her actions. Now as her deputy, he continues to support her and help her lead the clan. He is her right hand man, the one who can call her out on her short comings and help her avoid bad decisions. He is the first cat she will go to with new ideas or concerns. He can usually help calm her if needed or back her up when necessary. They have a very close relationship. As of recently Jaystar has started to realize that she might have stronger feelings for Kestrelwing than she'd originally care to admit. After all they have been through together, she has considered the possibility of taking their relationship further but has yet to take a course of action on it.
